I crushed my glasses this morning

When I woke up today I went to the bathroom. When I got back to my bedroom to find my glasses on night stand, my feet found them on the floor.

Thankfully my optician offers two pairs for the price of one. The solution was only 10 feet away in my livingroom.

Getting re-started with electronics

It’s been way too since I have done anything with electronics and to remedy this I ordered some things from Sparkfun to help me get started again. In the photos below you’ll see a Track & Wheel set, a Universal Plate Set and a Dual Motor GearBox. Okay, you’ll see the boxes and then you’ll see the whole thing put together.

Now I need to get started with some controls. At first it will probably be wired controls, very basic. But I do hope to be able to remote control this thing.

Minecraft Buildcraft Seed

I just created a new world in Minecraft (with the Buildcraft mod) using the custom seed gimmesomethingSWEET. My initial spawn was with a 3×3 rubber tree to my left, looking around in the immediate area I found five more. In addition a “waterfall” with some mysteriuos liquid that will not go into a bucket.

Adventures in Minecraft – Stargate Command

The past few weeks I have been having a blast playing the indie game Minecraft. With the latest update (1.8) a new “Creative” mode is available, giving the player unlimited access to all items and blocks. With the ability to destroy all blocks with one click and freeflight mode, you are limited mostly by your imagination.

After about a week or so of playing a friend of mine showed me what is called the Portal, a gate that takes you to The Nether, some kind of scary alternate dimension. After seeing this Portal there was no question about it, some day I was going to build Stargate Command in Minecraft.

Work started today, I created a server on my netbook, made the guardhouse at the entrance. I then invited my friend cellfact to come check out the awesome sliding blastdoors I created, and he stuck around. The result is what you see in the following screenshots.

I like space! And I also like do it yourself things. AMSAT is what you get when you combine the two. Oscar 7 is an amateur satellite that has been orbiting earth since 1974 and is still operational. I am tempted to start tampering with amateur radio in order to communicate with these satellites.

And what about putting an amateur RC car on the moon? A moon rover would be awesome!

Nothing But Tablets

A friend of mine is heavily involved in a new website that lanched yesterday. It’s called “Nothing But Tablets” and the tagline is “Home of everything flat”. To help ignite user activity they are running two lotteries. One could land you an iPad2 or other tablet of your choice, the other can land you a nice WiFi Kindle ebook reader.

Entering the raffle is pretty simple, each comment on any article is increases your chances of winning an iPad 2 or tablet, while each post in the forum increases your chances of winning the Kindle.

It’s a pretty sweet deal, and if you are into flat stuff like tablets and eReaders, then it’s an excellent site. It’s created by the people behind Anything But iPod, so I predict loads of other giveaways, a very active discussion board and well written reviews.

These are my top 10 predictions of what is going to happen in 2011:

10: Useless Technology

Apple will continue to sell loads of iPads, people will continue to justify buying it, they will not yield until they are thoroughly screwed over after not having backed up their important data. They will swear never to buy apple again, but then the iPadSomemore is launched and it’s the same thing all over again.

Edit: BitchesAlot made a point, iTunes does backup stuff for you, so when you buy the new iPadsAlotmore you get your stuff back.

New point: People realize they are trapped in a makebelieve fairlytale world where the White Apple tells them what to do, wear, say, and that this is the only way to go. There may be new ways coming, but if, when, how, where, is all in the hands of the great white. People will eventually realize that they cannot play their cracked Sims 3 on it and return to their computers.

Beeing a huge coaster is the only thing an iPad is good for.

09: There will be porn

The interwebs will continue to flow over with pornography.

08: Old Technology

Apple will intruduce a feature to their devices (iPhone primarily) which will be promoted as groundbreaking and something you could never imagine living without. You will then come to know other devices have had this for years, and did not require an iProduct. It was also discontinued as it sucked.

07: Facebook shuts down

There will be public outrage. People from all western countries, and most others will protest against this and demand gouvernments to take action. People will be willing to trade away their retirement funds to be able to SuperGigaMegaPoke their friends one last time.

06: Laziness

I will not bother writing items 5-4, and jump straight to number 1.

01: Told you so

I will probably only write one or two more posts this year.

So I downloaded an app for Android called “Music Box”, which lets you search and download any music you want. Without paying. Some people consider this illegal.

But how can piracy be wrong when the ad says Jesus loves me?
